All Thanksgiving break was filled with putting finishing touches on my project. Last night we presented our projects and now that is over with. I will still be continuing to work on my project thought, even after graduation. I hope that I did well and I hope my hard work paid off. Now I will be spending most of my time perfecting my portfolio.

Sharp-Week 9

I finished the project and it feels good! I am excited to see how my presentation with the advisory committee turns out because I am really hoping I can start getting this up and running next semester. I am looking for the chance that this could turn into something big for the university. I meet with donna gross one last time and we went over my final ideas, etc. She was impressed and thinks the advisory board will like the idea!

Sharp -Week 8

During week 8 I was able to finalize the draft for my blog and also finish up the development of my topics, I was continuing to meet with Donna Gross, we were trying to get a date that I could present my ideas to the New Student Orientation Advisory Committee. I am finally on the agenda for December 1st, 2011 at 10am.

Barnett - week 9

Got some work done over break, but not much. Last night I went to the MCT at 7 and left at 5 a.m. I got my original proposal cleaned up and finished my final report and analysis. I spent about an hour and a half trying to figure out how to start numbering pages on the third page but had no luck. I just finished up my powerpoint for tonight's presentation so I'm officially done. There were so many parts for the project though that I feel like I'm either forgetting something or that I did something wrong. Hopefully that's not the case.

McCullough update 9

It's 11pm the night before the infamous capstone project is due, do you know where your sanity is? I do not. I have officially finished the PR campaign, and might I add it feels quite amazing! Now I am on to the daunting task of writing the report/evaluation. This part of the project is harder than I anticipated, probably because messing this up is worse than messing up the campaign itself.

I am fairly sure I know how I want my presentation to go tomorrow evening, I will focus on the goals and objectives the campaign set.

Galdun Update #9

Almost completed my capstone paper. I've spent the past week typing this thing up. Why do I feel as if I am not the only one? Looking forward to everyone's presentations tomorrow! It's nice to not have to do any more research..

Shimandle Week 10

Nothing like waiting until the last minute. My project is finally finished for all intents and purposes of class. What I took on is something that will not be absolutely finalized until the end of next semester because CAC's main events take place in the spring semester. However, I have the entire manual set up. It includes position descriptions, contacts, resources, examples, suggestions and a timeline. The contacts, resources, examples and suggestions can all be altered and added to as next semester progresses. The timeline is also tentative, but that goes without saying.

While it was a stressful project to take on, I really learned a lot about how the SU campus works with clubs and organizations, how each CAC officer is involved in the club as well as what I can be doing to further fulfill my position requirements. I have been cursing this project throughout the process, but ultimately, I'm glad I did it because it is something that will help out a cause that I am truly passionate about.

The only think I am waiting on, which is probably the most stressful part of the entire project, is the feedback from each officer and the Staff partner. Throughout this process I have found that it is almost impossible to rely on people who do not feel that this project will help or affect them, which is sad, but true. I am just hoping that they realize this is more about the cause we work to support and maintaining a presence on campus than it is about them individually or personally.

So, let's bring on the feedback... hopefully!

Sean Gallagher- Week 9

I have published the website and have received feedback from several people, most importantly officers of WSYC. Brenden, the Human Resource Director, who was elected to be the General Manager starting in the spring, liked the design of the site and would like to talk further about using the site as the main site for the station in the future. Creating a new website was a task Brenden wanted to tackle in the spring.
The guidelines for the site and social media are complete.
I feel that there have been a few ups and downs with this project, but I feel that it is well done and that the website and guidelines could be incorporated into the new website for the radio station.

Sharp-week 7

During week seven I held my focus group with a group of students for Naugle and Lackhove. It went well and was very relaxed. We bounced around ideas and got some personal insights from freshman who are experiencing the transition now. I developed what "themes" I want my blog to cover as well. I created the blog, facebook, and twitter page but was working on content.

Jensen week 8

I've just been adjusting the items of my project to fit the time and producing my final proposal. I've been consulting with people in the class to get an idea for layout and details for the final project. All in all, I think I've fared well with the project although with more time it'll prove to be better, since the project will be executed next semester.

Keeley-Week 9

I hope everyone is having a great Thanksgiving and is finding time to work on the project. I finished my project, but I am still helping at the gallery. This Friday is the holiday party, so I am going to decorate the gallery this week and attend the party. I finished everything, and now I am working on a powerpoint for the presentation. I also need to update my project now that I'm finished. Good luck to everyone and see you Tuesday night for presentations!

After a long night of black Friday shopping I an going to spend the next 5 hours working on my plan. My project is complete I just need to write everything out.

Cover Week 9

This week, my client Alan finally put my video up on their company's facebook page, "Carlisle Family YMCA". I have been getting more and more people to take my survey which can be found in the status to the video. I encourage everybody in the class to take the survey because the more the better.

Also, I am currently updating little things in my project statement and I have been adding much more to the risk management section because I ran into a few things that I did not anticipate such as bad weather and footage opportunities. I have decided that I will use a portion of my video in my presentation, as it is a reflection of my project as a whole.

Nothing real new to report on project. Everything is still going as planned and should be completed with it all by Sunday. Just continuous communication with all involved has occurred over the last couple days.

Schindo Update

AHH! I have totally forgotten to update the blog until now, huge changes have been happening with my project! Essentially, things did not go as planned with my special edition show (I think I chose a project that relied too heavily on things other than myself), but that's why we have contingency plans, right?! So I have been working the past two weeks on changing my project to go with my contingency plan, which is to create an EZ News User Manual for SUTV to use in the future. Everything worked out okay, though, I was already putting a manual together to use for writing clinics that SUTV is going to hold in the future. The manual also includes broadcast writing tips for beginners - this will be very helpful for underclassmen who want to be involved in SUTV and have not yet taken Electronic Media Writing. The manual will be useful in many different ways!

Everything is coming together so now I am putting the final touches on my report and putting together a powerpoint for my presentation. I hope everyone has a great Thanksgiving!!

Shimandle Week 9

It is coming down to the wire now as far as getting any last information I am going to include in presenting my project. Throughout this whole process, getting the necessary information from each officer was like pulling teeth and a few are barely cooperating. I do have enough information to complete the binder. However I do not have everything that I wanted to include. Fortunately, next semester is when our major organization event takes place and a majority of the materials included in the manual will come from that, so I will be able to add examples and more suggestions as the year progresses. Next semester will also allow for more feedback and suggestions. I know this project is supposed to be completed, and it will be, by Tuesday, but in order for it to fulfill its purpose and work, information from next semester and making changes will be crucial.

I am currently working on printing everything out and organizing it into the binder. At our officer meeting on Monday I will have each of the officers read through their section and mark up and suggestions or changes they see as necessary. I will use those changes as feedback and I will also ask them the same questions I asked before I started this project and use their answers for feedback as well.

Another thing I have to go back and do is to make the necessary changes to my project proposal so it coincides with my actual project. This, along with rehearsing what I want to say for C/J Night, will be the last thing I do before the presentations

I am slightly nervous that I am going to have a rushed project because I did not take into account how long it would take for some people to respond to me or meet with me. However, like I said before, next semester, although it does help my submission of the project now, will allow me to really tailor the manual and then produce individual manuals from that.

It is now time to kick it into high gear and hope I did not set myself up to fail. ,

Ponterio-Week 9

Last week I presented my alpaca program at Country Meadows and it was not what I expected. It went incredibly well, don't get me wrong, but it wasn't quite what I had envisioned from prior experience. I think it went better that way though. I had pictured a room full of elderly residents sitting quietly while I gave my spiel and then asking questions and then having petting and feeding time with the animals. Instead, my clients (mother and sister) wanted to have the alpaca moving and letting the residents pet them while I spoke. I was worried that it would be totally out of control and that no one would hear me, but the residents loved it! Their faces lit up and the staff said they'd never seen such a huge turn out with such a positive response. They asked really great questions, which, admittedly, I was not expecting. The whole thing was a delightful surprise. I think that my actual speech portion could have been smoother, but I was very thrown with the amount of activity going on while I was presenting. My evaluations were all almost 100% positive and they have asked that we come back as well as visit the other campuses in the region. Overall it was a bigger success than I anticipated. It was even going to get media coverage and be on the evening news, but we got scooped by a bigger story. Regardless, it was in the newspaper so I am trying to track down a copy of that. I think it was a really satisfying result and that the project as a whole was a good experience. Now I am trying to sum it up in the final evaluation and prepare to present and then all will be done. Adams week 8

Not much of an update. I have been stimulating traffic to the website to the best of my ability. For it's first full week online the website received 621 unique visits and 1383 non-unique page hits. Monday I submitted the website to designshack.net, a website that specializes in displaying CSS websites. Hopefully, by the time the project is due we will have at least one print order and one new perspective client.

Barnett - week 8

I finally got approved to go on with my student research, however it happened so late in the semester and right before thanksgiving break so it's been a challenge to get all the surveys done. My flyer is also completed so now all that needs to be done is to hang them around campus, which I'm planning on doing tomorrow. Tomorrow is basically the last day I have to gather surveys because the project is due after break and everyone will be gone after tomorrow. I'm going to spend tomorrow evening getting as many more as I can, and then over break I'm going to type out the analysis of them. I guess this should just be in a word document because I don't think I'm supposed to include it in my proposal. Speaking of the proposal, I also need to fix my original as well as completely rewrite it in the past tense for the final one. Lastly, I need to review what's expected at this senior night thing and figure out how I'm going to present my project to the class.

Overall this project has been the most stressful part of my semester and it's been difficult to find the time to work on it on top of the workload for my other 5 classes. I also haven't been able to really begin assembling my portfolio yet because I haven't had time so the next few weeks I'm going to be extremely busy.

Not a whole lot to report this week. I'm pretty much just staying the course and putting all the pieces of the project together. I did however review some of the video and was not satisfied with it, so we deleted it and will be redoing that section.

McCullough week 8

WELL,

We are coming to the end of this crazy project. I am working on writing my PR campaign as well as designing some pieces for the department. It is proving to be really hard to get this done in the amount of time we had to do it. I feel like I am not doing as good as I could have.

My client is being very cooperative and helping me get through these final stages.

Williams 8

The only thing left I need to do for my project is make my presentation for next Tuesday. I have an outline of the things I want to include in my presentation to the class. I was thinking about making a power point so I could show parts of my manual.

Overall, I've been happy with the way this project turned out. I want to check in with the club next semester to see if they used the tactics like they said they would and if their recruitment improved.

Sean Gallagher Week 8

The website is almost finished and I an to have it published for public view by mid-week. I have done several different drafts and based on the opinions of those surveyed, I have added the features that they liked most about a website.
The guidelines are coming to together nicely. I will work on finishing those by Tuesday.

I am finished my magazine for my Magazine Design class. I will be using this same layout for my magazine for this project. I am still collecting ads and I hope I can get them all in by the time the project is due. It is difficult working with other companies that have a lot of work to do on their on, let alone want to try and help me out. I got responses from a number of companies who do want to advertise in my magazine but they have been too busy to actually make or send me their ad. It was very frustrating. I will just need to fill in all of my TKs. I need to fill in all the dummy text with original content.

I am stressing a lot over being able to finish this project. I wish there was more time.

Gueguen-Week 8

I am in the final stages of producing my project. I am finishing up the video on head football coach Mark Maciejewski, and I will have it uploaded to The Slate website, hopefully by the end of today. If it is not uploaded today, it will be up by the end of the weekend.

After the video is uploaded, I will get written evaluations on my work from my boss at The Sentinel, Andy Sandrik, and also from Dr. Drager. This part of the project is a slight change from my original proposal to have the web people at The Sentinel, Naomi Creason and Jeff Pratt, evaluate my work.

I will also create surveys through surveymonkey.com and distribute them through Facebook. I will have links to the online versions of the articles available for the survey takers to view, then ask them questions related to the articles.

My next major step is to go through and update the proposal. I am hoping to finish all aspects of this project by Monday.

Cover Week 8

This week I have sent out invites on facebook for people to take my survey, so far I am somewhere in the teen's range of people who have taken the survey. I am noticing several different viewpoints and also common answers amongst my questions.

I have also been checking in on my client and asking when the project will be uploaded to their website. He informed me that they are currently working on it and it will be up shortly.

I will now begin to update my project proposal further by updating my goals and objectives, as well as writing up the conclusion pieces.

Blog Update

Okay so the event at Hoss's was last Friday night. A few of the organisation leaders from Women In Need was able to come out and support. I was a little upset that out of the 10 people that worked on this project that only myself and a another guy was able to go the event. We won't know how much money was made until my professor receives an email from one of the managers at Hoss's. We had a great turn out, so I'm hoping we made a few dollars to help the shelter along with their campaign.

Ponterio- Week 8

This week I am finalizing all of the educational materials, i.e.- FAQ, trifold brochure, Why buy alpaca products flyer. Tomorrow afternoon I will be giving my presentation in Hershey of the alpaca program I wrote. I will be giving it 3 times at Country Medows Senior Living at varying levels of care. The public have been invited. I am not sure what the turnout will be. I will then recieve and interpret my evaluations and begin working on my presentation for C/J night.

Morgan Update 7

I'm going to work on the presentation for CJ night, soon. Besides that, I'll continue tracking our numbers for November (as close up to the 29th as possible). Whatever we have at that point will be our final number (at least for the presenation and project is concerned). I hope that the advertising and marketing we've used will help Tom continue to thrive in the economic downturn.

Adams Update

All loose ends with the website have been tied up. The gallery, about, and links section have been finished and uploaded. With that being said the website went public last Saturday. Currently, I am working on stimulating traffic into the website in order to meet the goals outlined in my project. I have had Howard update his twitter and DA pages and have been advertising on design forums and other communities. Right now my main priority is directing attention to the website and teaching Howard how to independently maintain and update his website.

Stein Week 8

Both of my student articles are to The Slate and the first one should be in this week's issue and then the next issue will include the second student. I have all of my footage that I need and will begin editing tomorrow and continue until Thanksgiving break. Because I have been hearing from different individuals that there is not that much space on the university websites, I changed the footage around a little bit. Instead of interviewing the students and making it more in depth, I just let the students talk on camera as if they were speaking to an incoming student or a student who is undeclared as to why their major has played such an important part in their internship and/or plans after college. Not much editing is needed and because I do not have a lot of space on these websites, and since The Slate's website has been unclear, I have ruled out putting a link on those websites so that students can be directed to YouTube. I feel like having the videos on YouTube defeated the purpose of my project.

Shimandle Week 8

The realization that our deadline is quickly approaching finally sunk in! I am not as organized as I wish to be at this moment, but I am in the process of changing that. Last night I sat down with our ACS Staff Partner and went over all the position descriptions with her in order to ensure that each task is addressed and each officer is meeting the necessary requirements. The meeting went well and she gave me several ideas as far as things to include and changes to make.

I also realized that producing 10 or so binders before the deadline is probably not going to happen, so I am making a minor change and am going to create the main binder, which will contain all the same information, just a bit more condensed. This binder will be given to the CAC President and the Relay For Life Chairs.

This project is not going to be finished once I hit the deadline because the organizations main event does not happen until April and position changes will not be made until after that event. In order to obtain feedback, I am going to ask each officer to read over their section of the binder and answer the same questions I asked them before starting this process. I am also going to ask for their opinion as to what the binders will do to help them fulfill their duties as an officer. As each officer goes through their section of the binder, I am going to ask them to place stars or highlight things they have suggestions or comments for. There will then be an appendix for current officer suggestions that will address their changes.

I am currently working on the year-long timeline for the binder as well as collecting all the example pieces, templates and contact information that will be included under each officer's section.

Over Thanksgiving Break, I am going to go shopping for the necessary supplies and I am going to print all the pages.

Sunday the deadline for the survey officially ended after being extended. With the extension I have been able to collect enough data to successfully update the Reflector website. That will be my task for the next week and a half as well as continuing to update the Facebook page, the twitter page and the blog. The blog has seen a small amount of interest - not enough as was expressed by the survey and so I am hoping more people will be interested in partaking in the blog. I'll be able to update on Friday once I have done. Some more updates to the website.

Jeffrey Decker 5

After completing primary and secondary research, I have composed my full PR plan and have submitted it to a peer for revision. In the coming week I will be revising the document and making changes where they are needed. The document consists of strategy, goals, objectives, tactics, timeline, budget, and situational analysis.

I am also going to do a bit of further research via an interview with Dr. Coolsen, a business marketing professor here at Shippensburg University.

Jensen week 7

The Deans of the College of Business presented my ideas to their student advisory panel last week, which slowed progress slightly but I've been working on print work to let students know about the facebook page. This week I'll get their feedback and present the Dean's with my flyer ideas. Hopefully, they will be ready to announce the page soon. I've been sending at least to articles a week to Anna who is in charge of the facebook account.

I'm just now beginning to put together the film for the Maroons. I'm in contact regularly with former coach Patterson to see what all I should be sure to include and to get some added insight on issues I may not have previously been aware of.

Sarah Smith - Week 7

This week I'll be working on surveys. I have a few more to do, but otherwise things are going well.

I have worked on my proposal and almost everything is complete. I need to edit it and work on the evaluation.

Things are going well. Can't wait to see everything finished and put together.

Sharp-Week 6

I have got my blog up in running, I am calling it Your-Transistion instead of something with the name ship in it so it can attract students from other schools as well. I am starting to work on the facebook page and will have that running by the end of the week. I have been in contact with the director of orientation and am meeting with the Keiffer hall RD this week. My next step is to make some packets that display information and attract students to the blog and facebook page.

Williams 8

I have most of my project completed. I finished my project report and included my manual into the appendices as well as my survey and quiz questions.

The next thing I need to start to do is think about what I want to present in my project for Senior Night. I really want to highlight the fact that the club knew nothing about good PR and recruitment before and now they have a valuable tool (the manual) that they can keep using in the future.

Hopefully within the next few days before break I can make a little outline for my presentation that will highlight some points I want to share.

Ballard- Week 7?...I think?

I'm having trouble keeping track of the week numbers, sorry!

I feel that I do not have much to do with my project. I already finished my final project paper, so now all I have to do is create the presentation for C/J Senior Night.

After evaluating my seminar, I feel that it was a valuable tool for PRSSA. I'm going to leave my seminar notes behind so that someone else can implement the seminar next year.

McCullough week 7 (and 6)

Hello fellow capstone people,

Last week was uneventful in the capstone project for me.

This week I will be beginning the final draft of my campaign as well as designing a mailer and new pens for the fire department. I will be meeting with my client early next week for some follow up information and to make sure I did not miss any major details in the campaign.

The biggest challenge I am facing now is time.

Barnett - week 7

I submitted all the papers needed to get my student research approved so now I just need to wait to hear back from them. This week I'm going to create the flyer and hopefully I'll have approval by the end of this week. Once I'm approved I'm going to then distribute the stories and surveys. After that all I'll need to do is analyze the findings of the survey and clean up my proposal a little so it fits this project because when I originally submitted it I hadn't yet decided to incorporate the framing aspect. I feel like I'm making okay time on the project, but I'm just concerned with how long this approval is going to take because she made it sound like it could take weeks which would make things pretty difficult for me.

I am almost done my magazine for Magazine Design class and I will be able to focus all of my energy on my magazine for Capstone.

I am still having difficultly collecting the rest of my ads. I have to make a decision whether to keep pursuing ads or to not even have ads in my magazine. If I don't have ads in my magazine I will have to come up with more editorial content.

I will be receiving my other feature story this week and I will be doing the layout and design for that story the beginning of next week.

Sean Gallagher- Week 7

What has been an interesting week as a comm/journalism major, I was still able to accomplish a good amount of work done with the project.
Designing the website has gone well. I have been constantly going through several different drafts of what I want the site to look like. I am planning on taking photos of the studio to use for the site, and I am incorporating material from the old site to the one I'm creating with some modifications.
I've talked to Brenden Bekos, the HR director with WSYC and we were discussing my idea of adding podacasts to the site.
We discussed a few different programs, including Podbean which offers a free subscription along with other ones wiith more features for certain payments.
I had a survey sent out to current Shippensburg students through Survey Monkey. I will gather the information and see what they would like to have featured on this website.
The guidelines are coming together. Of course I have had to iron out some gray areas, but nothing to complicated.

Cover Week 7

This week, Sean helped me record some audio for my video portion and I was able to complete that sufficiently. I then emailed my story and survey to my client to post up on their website, but I had to go in to give them the video portion.

My client, Alan, said they would put it up on their website around the beginning of next week. In addition, he said he would send out a newsletter to all the families asking them to watch the video and take the survey.

Adams - Update

Week of October 9 - 15

I met with Howard at his home in Langley, Virginia. We discussed what exactly he wanted. He requested that I do three rough thumbnail designs for his website. He requested that I do two simple, and one that incorporated his actual artwork into the layout. Here is the first and second simple layout, this is the third. Howard really liked the first layout; therefore, that was the one I started coding.

Week of October 16 - 22
Upon cleaning up the website and selecting which fonts, colors and effects would go into the layout, I sliced the layout using adobe photoshop CS5 to get it ready for the coding process.


Week of October 23 - 29
This week was dedicated to coding the actual layout. I imported the sliced index file that photoshop generated into dreamweaver. From there I removed the tables and replaced them with a CSS overlay so the layout would not only be cross browser comparable, but cross platform comparable as well (cell phones, ipads...ect) The website itself is a mix of CSS and HTML. The CSS stays static in order to maintain a consistent text and link style from page to page. For example, the navigation itself is its own CSS ID, having a consistent white font color and red hover effect.

Week of October 30 - Nov 5

Was running a little behind schedule, my original goal was to have the website launched by November 1st. At this point what was left to implement was the actual gallery script and a contact form. I snagged an opensource PHP mail form and edited it for the website's needs. Initially, for the gallery I was going to use PHPImageGallery to display and maintain the images that would be posted on the homepage. However, the server that is hosting the website has a .htsaccess file that would not let me edit nor give the proper permissions for internal uploading and scripting display. I settled on another script, lightbox, that didn't utilize PHP, rather it did its scripting using javascript and used CSS to better view and display the images.

Week of Nov 6 - Nov 12

Currently the website is fully functional and can be found HERE. The contact form is fully functional, and when you click the image example on the homepage it opens using the lightbox script. I have been in touch with Howard regularly through out this process. Last week I requested that he writes his about me section, organize his pieces in the way they should appear on the website, and provide me with links to his affiliated pages, groups, interviews, tutorials...ect. The last time I spoke with him was three days ago, so I'm hoping to have all this information by the weekend so we will be ready for a full launch. In the meantime, I have been editing the website to make it a little more functional and aesthetically pleasing. I added a background image to give the layout a little more life. Two days ago I ended up widening the layout by 150 pixels in order to better display the gallery. The statistic viewer has also been implimented to better collect website data.

So what's left to do?

Right now I am just waiting on Howard to get me the requested materials. Due to coding the layout in CSS - once I have the requested info it's a simple copy and paste, then the website itself can be deemed complete. Howard has also been deciding over what domain he wishes to associate his website with. Currently, I have created a temporary URL just so there is a physical link to his website. Hopefully, by the weekend the website should have its full content and domain name. I have already prepared a list of design forums where I can advertise his website once released. More so, Howard has agreed to make an announcement of the completion of his website on his Twitter, DeviantArt, and design group webpage. This should reach no less than 1,000 web users.

Ballard Week 7

I just finished my final paper. It feels really good to be done with evaluation.

Now I have to complete my presentation. My goal for my presentation is to actually show the difference between the pretest and the final activity This was definitely showcase the progress that the participants made.

I am excited to make my final presentation.

Keeley-Week 7

Last Friday was the opening of the Give the Gift of Art Holiday Exhibit. It was awesome to see my hard work pay off. I spent two full evenings at the gallery the week of the event preparing the gallery for the exhibit. Hanging all the artwork and figuring out where to put each piece was a long process. I also had to prepare all of the food for the event. The night of the opening I headed to the gallery early to set up the food and hang up signs. We had an awesome turn out as many people showed up! We sold a few pieces of art and also a few memberships. All in all it was a great night. Now I need to start preparing for the Holiday Party on December 2.

Week 7- Ponterio

This week I have been finishing up layouts and design for products. This weekend I have a run through of the educational program. My client informed me that the program I am presenting on Nov. 18 will now be open to the public in Hershey and a press release went out to the local newspapers. I arranged to have it filmed and photographed. It may be covered in local news, that has yet to be determined. I am also attempting to prepare for the presentation on Nov. 29 for the Comm/Journ Dept. by preparing my pdfs to be viewable. I will be sitting down with my clients to redesign one of the brochures upon request. The materials should be finished by the time of presenting and the brochure will be sent to the printer next week.

Shimandle Week 7

It is time to get the ball rolling now that I have all the necessary information in order to complete all the aspects that will be included in each training manual.

I will complete the position descriptions and overall 2012-2013 timeline by this weekend. Once I complete both, I am going to send them to the American Cancer Staff partner for feedback. The Staff Partner will be able to help me more clearly define positions an establish the timeline because she has spent a couple years working with various Colleges Against Cancer chapters and understand what works and what does not.

The other thing I would like to complete this week is the purchasing of all the necessary supplies such as binders, dividers, blank CDs, etc. Otherwise, I think that I am finally on track for completing the project on time!

Stein Week 6

I do not really have an update this week. I ran into a problem with one of the students I wanted to interview. She is unavailable so now I only have two students that are including in my project. With the time that is left, I am not sure if there is enough time to interview and shoot another student, so I am hoping I will be okay with just two. I am shooting the students this weekend and the last article will be emailed to The Slate this week.

I had to extend the deadline of my survey a little bit further so I could get some more feedback on the website and PR endeavors. So far, the Facebook page is the most successful out of the three social media options I have explored with The Reflector. The Twitter page is up and running and so is the blog. What is nice about the Twitter page is I have it connected to the Facebook page so everytime someone posts and update on the Facebook page, it is linked to the Twitter. The blog I am not sure how it is going to do, it needs people to be interacting almost on a weekly basis to be successful and once I finish my project, I am not sure if anyone will be using it.

I am extending the deadline of the survey until this Friday so I can gather more responses and spend a majority of this weekend on updating the website.

Sarah Smith - Week 6

This past week I have been working on my proposal. My project is basically finished. I only need to do a few more surveys before I am completely done.

I also plan to meet with Dr. Sipes to discuss publishing my magazine. I am told the only facility to do this is Kinko's in Harrisburg. I'm looking to do some last minute changes before sending it off. I think it will be a great piece in my portfolio.

My proposal is taking a lot longer than I thought it would. I didn't change many things in my project, but adding in what I learned and the different things I will take away from completing my project seems to be adding up. Be sure to start early! I'm thankful that I am.

Amber Fluck- Student Veteran Guidebook

Meeting with administrators has proved both enlightening and frustrating for me this past week or so. My trip to Rutgers really opened my eyes as to what a good "veterans services" program looked like, so when I came back to Ship last week, I was feeling pretty disillusioned about what we offer here at Ship.

I started really nailing down questions for administrators last week and have met or spoken with four or five offices, including the Registrar, University Housing, Financial Aid, Admissions and Student Accounts. Most seemed more than willing to answer my questions, and those ones really impressed me with the amount of support they provide student veterans/military students. It changed my perspective on how much our campus community does to be military supportive.

Other offices just reconfirmed my earlier suspicion that veterans are not in any way a priority. That isn't at all helpful to student veterans already struggling with readjustment issues. I hope this changes in the future.

I have two meeting scheduled this week, with Disability Services and Student Accounts. The contact person for Etter has yet to get back to me, and I'm currently working out my finalized questions for the University Counseling center, though my main contact is out of the office until next week.


My last issue is that the only desktop publishing program I have access to is the one here at the Mac lab in Rowland, but since I live so far away, it's hard to find the time to use it. I have been considering buying inDesign, but it's really expensive.

Williams 7

I don't really have much of an update for this week. The implementation and analysis of my project is completed, so now I'm ready to go back to my proposal and change it into the final form that will be handed in. I plan to work on this part of the project this week.

Gueguen Week 7 (cont.)

After discussing it further with The Slate staff, we came to the decision that the story will run in next week's issue. This will give me more time to get a more complete story. I will still plan to have the story and video ready for the web this week.

Gueguen Week 7

I will finish the second story of my project this week. I've already had an interview with coach Maciejewski, and I am going to try to interview some of the players before practice today. I am going to publish a short version the story in The Slate tomorrow, then I will work on putting the rest of it and the video together tomorrow and Wednesday. I want to have the story posted to the website by the end of the week.

Barnett - week 6

I changed the format of my survey so that people's answers will be given on a number scale. I've also added a lot of questions to get a more thorough look at the student's opinions. I still need to have you read over both versions of the story and approve my survey so I can then get approval from the campus people. I'm going to email all three to you right now and hopefully I'll be able to send them all to the student research people this week so I can get approval and get on with the actual surveying. In the mean time, I also need to email one of the stories, probably the more optimistic one, to the Slate editor so she can publish it, as well as begin designing the flyer.

Sharp-Week 5

I sent out a survey threw various mediums and am hoping to have a good turnout. The survey asks people about their various experiences during their freshman year, from how easy the transition was to what helped them the most. I hope to gains some conclusion about what is the most trouble and what people think would benefit freshman the most. I started created a blog for freshman to follow, I am using word press for this. My next step is creating the facebook page.

Ponterio- Week 6

This week has been a slow week, but I have made some progress on the program for the Nursing home and learned that I will be putting on a series of 3 programs in 4 hours. Each is expected to be about twenty minutes with time for questions. This changes my initial plan to have 30-45 minute programs. I will still write it that way and then decide what is most significant to keep. I also discussed the limitations of allowing petting of the animals with the client and the possibility of bringing product along to further demonstrate the usefulness of the animals.

Schindo Update #5

This week has been good for my project! Got two more pieces accomplished and two more (possibly 3) lined up for next week! Things are coming together nicely. There are still a few decisions to make, like if to pre-produce everything and piece it together or to do a live show. Also, to do the show from the studio or maybe find a more interesting venue on campus. My goal is to decide those two things by the end of next week!

Sean Gallagher- Week 6

I have made good progress on my project over the past week.
I have finally decided on the site to build the webpage. I have chosen Weebly.com. The site offers a simple building format which does not require HTML coding, but it still does offer the option to do coding. It has a drag and drop feature where pictures, video and audio can be inserted easily. I have shown this to different staffers at WSYC and they really liked it.

I am still working on the guidelines and will handing out a survey to members of WSYC as well as creating another one for the public with surveymonkey.com.

Jensen week 6

this week I'm developing all the information necessary for the cob to move forward with this project. I'm going to be emailing out the tips for next week as well as discussing the full plans for ideas that were brought up in our meeting last week.

A big push from the cob is to change my project a little bit and in the first week to get more people attracted to their Facebook. We were discussing ideas such as using clubs within the cob to let everyone know about the project. I'm also creating a smartphone scan bar-code that students can use to go right to the page to like it and follow the tips that I'll be giving as part of my project.

Stein Week 6

Not much has changed since last week. I hope to have all of my editing done the week before Thanksgiving Break and at that point, the articles will be in The Slate. I am still waiting to find out where my footage will be published. The Slate wanted them on their website, but they are still unsure about when their website will be organized enough to fit me in. I am still not too worried about it and am positive that the footage will be up.

Cover Week 6

This week I began editing what I have right now footage wise. On Saturday I will be finishing up collecting footage and hopefully be done editing by Monday.

I have started writing my story and so far it is going smoothly. I was able to reinforce a lot of the ideas I had on my topic with the interviews I conducted. I will be finishing up the story portion by the end of the week.

Regarding a survey, I will most likely be using surveymonkey when I turn in my video to the carlisle Y so participants can view the video and then take the survey.

Keeley-Week 6

This is the last week before the Give the Gift of Art Opening, which has made things pretty crazy. Last weekend I sat at the gallery Friday, Saturday and Sunday so that artists could drop off work. I was a little worried because I hadn't heard back from many people, but a lot of artists came by and handed in work. Last night I spent three hours hanging up all the artwork, and the gallery is still not ready for the opening. Tomorrow night more people will also be swinging by to drop off work and to finish hanging the gallery. The goal by tomorrow is to have all the artwork displayed. I also went grocery shopping for food that will be served at the event. Other board members will be bringing dishes as well. Also, I got my posters printed, FINALLY! It took the president a long time to print them, but at least now I can hang them up on campus and downtown to advertise for the show. Things are running smoothly. Now I just have to wait and see how the opening turns out.

Defenderfer 2

A little snag in the beginning stages of filming the piece. We were planning on getting the shots and opening intro started on Saturday, but the snow made that impossible. We have not rescheduled definately but are in continuous communication.

Brouillette Post #5

I am happy to report this week that my project is finally moving along. I was able to download a trial version of Adobe InDesign 5.5 to hold me over until I can buy it. I spent the last couple of night redoing my entire magazine in version 5.5.

I am still in need of a couple more ads. I have gotten promises of ads from about six organizations yet I have no received the ads. I will be contacting these companies to make sure I get their ads. I will also be soliciting new companies to make sure I can keep with my 60:40 ratio of content versus advertisements.

Kerr Update 6

I have some exciting news about the fundraising event. We have now picked a date, for the first fundraiser, (November 11th). It will be grate to be able to measure our success as a group so I can know if I was able to stick to my goals. Also, I am looking into creating a display board, demonstrating info on the shelter. It can be posted up whenever we go into the local bar for the event. I am excited about the event and hopefully we are able to make some money. The only issue we have now is getting the word out to campus and community members. We plan on handing out business cards, provided by the bar to get the word out to the public.

Morgan Update 6

Not much has changed since I lasted blogged. We have recorded and tallied all of October's info, though. We can now use that to compare it with our information from Septemnber and also with November. There really isn't much I can write about at the moment.

Williams 6

I have basically completed my project. Today I had the session with the officers of the club to give them the manual and answer any questions they had. Afterwards, they took the same quiz that they took at the beginning of the semester.

It looks like I have met all but one of my objectives: there were 75% of officers in attendance, each officer present got a copy of the manual and 2 out of the 3 officers present increased their score by 2 questions or more. The only objective that was not met yet was increasing membership for next semester by 50%, but I have no way of measuring that now.

Sarah Smith - Week 5

I've come to a bit of a stand still in my project. I've finished all the content and edited things thoroughly, but am still making some last minute changes.

I need to conduct a survey to measure my objectives of if this magazine actually helps. Since I can't send out my file, I'll need to make a way to do this while people look at the magazine on my computer.

I'm also waiting for a meeting with Dr. Sipes to get her feedback before I send this out for publication. If I had more time, I'd wait to do the survey afterward, but I won't have enough time, so I'll have to arrange another route.

Everything looks to be pretty good. I just need to do a few proposal changes and conduct the survey. Other than that, everything is complete!

Shimandle Week 6

The meetings I set up with each officer were more successful than I anticipated! I was able to run ideas by them and get their feedback and input as far as what they would like to see included in the transition/training manuals. I am currently in the process of finishing up the meetings, which will be completed tomorrow.

Once I finish meeting with the remaining officers, I am going to establish set positions for next year's executive board and create detailed position descriptions. In order to make a finalized packet/binder for each officer, I am going to create one for my position first. This way I can answer all my own questions and set a guideline for all the other officer binders.

As far as the amount of time available to complete the project, I may be cutting it close. In order to avoid any deadline failures, I am going to finalize the master binder, which will go to the club president, before I create each separate binder. That way I have all the necessary information in one place; the only thing I will need to do is to make copies of each section.

I was hoping to be a little further along by now, but if I stick to my new timeline I should have no problems completing everything.

Ponterio- week 5

Last week I helped the family with Farm Day. My FAQ sheets were set out and handed to guests. The general consensus was that they were helpful to the public. I also did a general talk on alpaca in a question and answer session. Doing this helped me to get a better grasp on what to include in my outreach presentations. I also helped to sell alpaca fiber products and hearing the questions people brought into the shop helped me further to understand what people need to know for my product information sheet. In interacting with the public I gained invaluable insight into what needs to be expanded upon. It also helped show me what the public wants and needs to know so that I do not include too much.

Stein-Week 5

The Slate is very excited and on board with my articles. I set up a timeline with them as to when the student spotlights will be featured in The Slate. They have the first article and will release it next week and the next two articles are finished as well, but I am waiting to send them to Danielle until next week so I can give her some time. I was in contact with people from The Slate last week and they think my project proposal looks great. As far as my video packages, they said that I may have to wait to have them put on the website because they are doing some work with it. That doesn't concern me too much, because I am hopeful the Comm/Journ department has many places that these packages could be used for. I cannot believe the deadline is approaching so fast. A little stressed, but still hopeful.
