Research at Rutgers
I'm currently in Edison, NJ, doing research at all three of the Rutgers' Campuses (Camden, New Brunswick and Newark) about the ways veteran services are dealt with at each campus. I've done two interviews thus far and am doing five or so on Monday (with both student veterans AND administrators) I'm hoping to use this information to guide me in developing the booklet I'm working on as my capstone project, a booklet that will help veterans navigate the services offered by Shippensburg.
It's startling to me how much better this college handles veterans and veterans affairs, how they value the veterans on their campuses and how they help veterans transition to AND through college. Shippensburg needs to take a look at the Rutgers system to see how a "military friendly" campus should look.
I've collected some literature dealing with Student Veterans and hope to combine the best of what i'm seeing into a booklet that is relevant for Ship, but nothing like it exists in the form I'd like. I feel like I'm trying to develop a new system as far as this booklet is concerned and it's a little daunting.
