Face-to-face contact proved to be a better way to get people to participate in answering my questions. I ended up typing up a list of questions and handing them out to each officer at the meeting on Sunday night. I also sent an email out with all the same questions in order to give them options. Initially, I got the same number of responses the next day, but I was persistant and now have six out of the 10 responses I need.
Once I get past this initial stage of questioning and interviewing I will be able to work mostly on my own instead of relying on the officers to provide me with information.
The next step I will take is to analize the responses and determine what I need to address in the training manuals. I will also be able to find out which positions I need to further research in order to have a full overview its requirements.
The responses will be able to help me figure out how I am going to design the manuals because they will show what each officer thinks is most important about the position and the most frequently asked questions about it.
As far as the people I have not heard back from yet, email reminders are not doing the trick. I am going to have to figure out a way to influence more of a response from them. Any one have any suggestions?
